Olivia's camp recount :)

OUR FIRST 2 DAYS AT GLENTUI MEADOWS!

28th of March came along so fast, as I woke up tired as I couldn’t get to sleep that night, thoughts popped in and out of my head. Today is the day!

As I raced around my room getting changed, doing my hair, feeding the mice Dad calls in to say “Breakfast time!” I ate my breakfast extremely fast as I couldn’t wait to get out the door and into the car!

After I did my teeth and face I said goodbye to Phoebe ,Robyn ,the dog, the cat ,the mice then grabbed my stuff and put it in the car. You’d the think I was going away for 3 months with the amount of stuff I was taking. Finally we are on our way to school.

When the car pulled in front of the school I was jumping up and down with excitement, I pull my 3 months’ worth of luggage out from the car and walk down the drive and on to the courts. A few minutes later everyone was here. I put my entire luggage and got into Kaylee’s car, off we go!!!!

When we arrived we had a brief meeting then we got our luggage and chose our cabin, Tessa, Sophie, Brittany, Seerat, Izzy and myself were in cabin 9 (which was upstairs). Once we were sorted we went to our 1st rotation mine was Interactive Games.

Finally after a lot of running around and shouting it was lunch time, I was starving! I ate my lunch super quickly then made my way up to my cabin to get ready for Abseiling.

It’s finally my turn I was so nervous yet excited at the same time. Click! I got attached to  the ropes which stop me from falling and breaking a bone I get into position lean back then slowly and carefully make my way down.

When I get to the bottom people congratulate me which was really nice. Afterwards I make my way up to camp standing tall and proud. When I arrived back at camp it was free time, we can do whatever we want my cabin mates and I chose to talk… and talk…and talk oh and eat sweet and sour lollies J Everyone was in a mad rush when the whistle blew for dinner, we all rushed into the common room to be dismissed to go for dinner. Our line was 2nd to last.

For dinner we had pasta and peas and for dessert we had a pancake with berry sauce, whipped cream and vanilla ice-cream. It was a scrumptious meal! Afterwards we had free time…again my cabin went back to our cabin and sat on our bunk beds and talked until the whistle blew for our next activity…Outdoor Tramping Safety, with Naomi.

In Outdoor Safety (which was actually indoors) we learnt all about the right gear to take if we go Tramping, she read us a story about a group who got into trouble in the bush and then we finished with a heart pumping game!

After that it was time for supper we had a delicious chocolaty Milo and we were allowed to have 2 home-made cookies, then it was time to get ready for bed.

I quickly rushed to the bathroom brushed my teeth and hair then I got changed into my comfortable, warm Pj’s. Our cabin talked for a while then we were told “lights out!” but our cabin still talked until we all fell asleep.

“Olivia!”
“What!”
“WAKE UPPP!!!” It was 7am in the morning our room was so dark only a little bit of light came through the little window by the door. Our cabin talked a while got out of our cosy warm beds to get dressed. When the whistle blew for breakfast everyone scurried to the Common Room.

For breakfast I had Rice bubbles and toast, it was delicious. After breakfast we did our teeth and face then my group walked down the slippery, steep stairs down to River Study.

In River Study we learnt about different types of flying, squirming and swimming bugs and I tested out how cold the river was by clumsily slipping on a very slippery rock and falling into the river, I felt so clumsy after that because everyone was laughing!!!!

After an embarrassing morning I jumped in the shower as I was soaking then headed for Morning tea. For morning Tea we were allowed 2 items of baking, I picked 2 cookies. Then we climbed back down the evil stairs once again this time to Outdoor cooking.

First we started by gathering a large pile of dry sticks and leaves and we got some dry grass when we had chosen a rather burnt spot. When we finished setting up our fire but not lighting it we all assembled at a park bench and started making the pikelet mix, it was such an easy recipe! It was now time to light our fire! It took Duncan, Brittany and I a lot of goes to get our fire started but finally with a blast of orange and also a lot of heat our fire blazing hot, we managed to cook 6 pikelets on our Hobo stove.

As we all grunted and sighed climbing up the steep and muddy stairs back up to camp. We sprinted towards the Common Room as we were all starving! When our group got dismissed we ran outside to line up.

For lunch we had a home-made buns with lettuce, tomato etc. Then we were allowed some free time. My cabin-mates and I hung around the food table waiting for some more but it never came. The whistle blew for our last Rotation; mine was sketching with Mrs Mac!

With sketching we first had to use different types of shading for half the picture and then the other half (which your partner has) and your pictures should match when they are put together, Brittany’s and mine did not match at all so they looked very strange.

After sketching we had another lot of free time which I used to go into the pool. The pool was slightly green looking and freezing! But once you got used to the cold water it was quite refreshing. Once we all got dressed we made our way to the sweet-smelling dining room for dinner.

For dinner we had chicken drumsticks, potato squares and corn on the cob. When we had all finished our delicious dinner we went to the Common Room to play some games. I played Charades until dark!

Al you could see were stars and flashing torches and then you could hear Mr Barr shouting 3, 2, 1 RUNNN!!!! The first round I got out but the second round I won along with some others then we finished the game off with the 3rd and final round which I lost again!

The first two days of camp were exciting and so much fun; I learnt so many amazing and interesting things! I really hope I can do some of the full-on activities again! Thank you so much for the teachers and the parents who made this camp possible I loved every minute of it!
