Lucas's Recount

Glentui Camp

Beep, beep, beep went my alarm, it was time to wake up on a Tuesday morning, I got up and gulped down my breakfast then got ready for Glentui camp with Merrin School.

The trip there I was in Suzie’s car, the whole way there we had to listen to Glee, I don’t like Glee and I also had to sit next between two girls one was my sister and it was terrible!

After we had finally arrived I was so relieved, then we all had to lug our entire luggage over to our eight bedded cabins and then all chose a shelf to put our gear on. I chose one of four top bunk beds. In my cabin was Campbell, Ben, Rueben, Shunto, Hunter, Nicholas and I.

My first activity was abseiling, we had to abseil down a rock face using a rope, it was awesome our instructor was named Naomi.

River study was interesting there were lot of little bugs in the water, the water also freezing cold at only 14 degrees and we had to go in the water. We also found a huge spider it was a water spider and it was swimming with an egg sack.

After the river study we got to play softball with Mr Russell, I got tired very fast from all the running.
But it was very fun.

There was also a pool a Glentui and it is freezing at about 16 degrees, I only went in up to my shoulders because it was to cold.

The food that was made for us was amazing it was all made by Jan and Gea and the parents, Jan also made us some delicious buns for our lunch every day, the dinner and deserts were very well made and the breakfasts were just what id usually have for breakfasts.

When time pasted it slowly came to the day of the exciting Mount Richardson walk, the night before we all had to pack for the big day ahead, we had to include the following –shorts, drink bottle,
Wind breaker, beanie, sun block, insects repellent and suitable type of shoes to wear on the walk and that was basically what we all took.

When the day had came we all left after lunch then hopped into the cars and then drove up to where we were going to start our walk. We began in three different groups fast at the front medium in the middle and slow at the back I started in the middle a slowly made my way up to the front. our leader was Jan he lead us half way up the track and all the way down again it was the best walk ever, we also got to cover ourselves I mud, I was even floating in my own shoes, it was so exciting .

When we got back I was able to feel my own feet. After we had all shared our wonderful stories and cleaned all the glorious mud off our self’s it was time for dinner. Everyone at camp loved the final dinner, it was home made fish and chips some people even had seconds and thirds.

When it finally got dark everyone went outside to play spotlight down on the bottom fields, it didn’t work out very well but it was better than staying in our cabins for the rest of the night.

When everyone finally woke up it was breakfast
One yummy breakfast time later we all chose to clean or to go down to the fields and do sports with Mr Russell for the rest of the time we had at camp.

For lunch everyone that went down to play sports had to come up, like 150 stairs to have some marvellous lunch it was sausages in the home made buns it was so yummy!

Overall it was by far one of my favourite camps I’ve ever been on and I'm looking forward to my next.
