                                                        THE HONEY BEE

The honey bee is an insect.
The honey bee is bright yellow and orange it is 12mm long and has six legs. They also have stingers but it is only on the females.

Honey bees collect pollen. When the honey bees collect nectar the plants will live longer than ever before.

The queen will hatch eggs and that is all the queen ever does until death. When the egg hatches it will turn into a drone (adult bee) or a female.

The honey bees can all fly at lest 24kph. The honey bees feed by eating their own home. But they always rebilld it so it doesn't fall into bits. It will always make the hive much stronger then it was compared to before. They will eat to survive to keep alive.

Honey Bees are an important part of the insect kingdom.

The Hornet by Beth Wray

The Hornet is an insect. It's scientific name is Eusipal wasp.

The Hornet looks like a big wasp and has a golden gaster around the lower part of the body. Most of the hornets body is brown, it has two wings and six legs. The hornet can grow up to 5.6cm in size.

Hornets can be found in Europe, Russia, North and South America, Asia and Africa. The Hornet lives in hollow trees.

Queen Hornets lay eggs in hollow combs. The eggs hatch after 5-8 days. When hatching they become larva. The next stage is to spin a cocoon. Finally they emerge as adults. The queen then lays more eggs. The fertilised eggs are males the remaining eggs are females. The males leave the hive and die shortly after mating.

The hive can have up to 700 hornets in late summer.

If anyone goes to close to the hive the hornet will sting them to protect themselves. The Hornet's sting is fatal to anyone with an allergic reaction.

Nectar, oak tree sap and rotting or over ripe fruits are the Hornet's primary source of food. The Hornet also eats small insects like the Grasshopper. It kills with its sting and jaw.

The Hornet is a dangerous, large and fascinating insect that can kill.

                                 Snow at Merrin School!!!

It all started at 8:22 am. The wind was blowing hard, the rain was    pouring. The famous snowstorm had begun.

The weather man said it was going to sleet, but they were wrong.
Our school playground was covered in snow. The umbrellas once blue/green, now nearly all white. The rails are frozen, so as the ground.

We couldn't get our hopes up though, the rain was overpowering the snow, but the frozen crystals kept pushing and shoving, a battlefield in the sky. Rain , snow, rain, snow.

The office considered shutting down the school.

But in the end of all this, the wind will still be blowing, the rain can keep on charging, the snow will someday stop. But our memories lives on, a snowstorm in Merrin School.
