Ben's Recount

GLENTUI CAMP

Last Tuesday most of Room Nine, Ten and Eleven went to Glentui for four days and three nights.

When we got there we had to unpack all of the gear out of the cars and put it into our bunkrooms. The bunk rooms had eight beds but we only had seven people but heaps of gear.

As soon as everybody got there we had some activities and games. My group, group 4 had outdoor cooking. At Outdoor Cooking we were making pancakes. Noah, Luke and I were a group. First we had to collect dry wood so the fire would go then it was time to light the fire. Our can got munted and bent and burnt so our pancake mixture kept falling off the top of the can. We made about 4 to 5 pancakes but 2 weren’t cooked right. Once my dad lit the fire the fourth time he blew on it and the flames went bigger and bigger and bigger. So I blew on on it and it went out instead of going bigger. Then it kept going out so we put holes around the can and it worked perfectly.

Secondly we had initiative games with Mrs Black. In our meeting room we got blind folded. Some people put cups around the room for the two players Luke and I. We had to put 4 cups on chair legs. We had to act like it was a horse. It was a long round and he kept stealing the horse shoes but I got them back. I won the game because Luke had walked away.  The next round was Luke's dad against my dad. My dad kept on tackling really hard.

Thirdly we had River studies and softball. We started with softball and my team won the game because we bowled them out. Then we went to the river and played. we had to dig some mayflies out of the water and then match them up with each other. Later we had some games and watched a black square and it would get harder to watch because it got further and further away. Then we had a go with dirty water it was way harder.

Fourthly we had abseiling it was quite easy as well as hard to get down because there was some big drops where we couldn’t touch the rock. Then we had to climb up some slippery mud to get back up and it was quite steep but we did it. It was fun to go down and the view was really cool to see.

On Thursday we had to do the Mount Richardson walk but it was raining heavily so we couldn’t go. Some people were pleased, some people were mad but I was sort of pleased and mad. Then in the afternoon it cleared up so we left. First we had to line up in a number up to 33 and I was number 33. Later on we had got up the hill a bit and we asked ‘how long will it take’ and Jan said ‘15minutes’ but we knew it would take at least another hour because we hadn’t got half way through yet. It was meant to take 3 hours but it took us 5 and ½ hours to get back. Once we got back we all had showers and then got changed into warm gear because it was so cold. Then we got some free time so Hunter, Lucas, Shunto, Campbell, Reuben, Nicolas and I played Club Penguin top trumps. Unfortunately we didn’t finish but Hunter was winning - it was fun. Later that night we watched Mr Bean and it was funny. Once that had finished we went to bed because it was getting really late and we found rocks in our beds and little stones. They were a pain to get out. Then in the morning I jumped out of bed and stood on all of the tiny stones and it hurt my feet.

Early that morning we had to pack our bags so we could get back to school but we had a couple of hours left so we had some games down on the fields below us. We played nonstop cricket, volleyball and soccer. The first hour I played soccer. Then I played nonstop cricket but it was annoying because my shoes kept getting wet.Once we got back up the stairs that kill you we packed our bags and left to go to school.

It took about 45 minutes to get back to school. When we got back, a lot of us had a water fight and we all got soaked. So once I got home I got changed, sat on the couch and watched TV. In the end it was an entertaining camp.
