The Tower of London by Sam Watson

His majesty's royal palace and fortress the Tower of London (or known as White Tower).

Built in 1066 by William the Conqueror, the tower stands 27 metres high and is made up of three enclosures and four towers. It is built from caen stone imported from France. These are surrounded by four stone walls giving it is square shape.

The historic tower building has served a lot of purposes.
Such as: an armoury (1100), treasury, menagerie, the Royal Mint, Public Records Office and home to the Crown Jewels of London.

Many executions have taken place over the past 12th century to 19th century at the tower. There are said to be ghosts of the people who have been executed there. A famous execution is Anne Boleyn, beheaded (with a french sword) for treason against Henry VIII. It is believed that she haunts the chapel of St Peter and Vincula where she is buried carrying her head under her arm.
In 1816 a sentry guard outside the jewel house claimed to have seen a grizzly bear coming towards him.

This historical building has played an important role in English history. It has been essential to controlling the country.
