My Taonga

My Taonga is a very old book. It is special because several members of my family have read it and also because it is one of my favourite stories.
The book is called Pride and Prejudice and is by Jane Austen.

Pride and Prejudice isn't actually mine, its my Mums. Pride and Prejudice is a classic. It is by a very famous author called Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austens second novel and was first published in 1813. I think that my book was the second edition published.

The book was first owned by someone called Joan Tretherway who is not a member of our family. My Nana was given the book in high school she read and detested it so she gave to her sister(my great aunt). She was given the book in 1948. At some point my Mum was given the book. My cousin has read it too. When I was nine I read the book for the first time.
Pride and Prejudice is written in very old-fashioned language but I managed to understand it because I'd seen the movie hundreds of times.

The book is hard covered. I think it is made from blue canvas. The book is very old and a bit tatty. On the front is a pressed picture of a fountain. On the spine is the name of the book and author in silver writing.
The pages inside the book are yellow and the text is very small and black.

The story in the book is set in the 1790s and is about political dating. It is about a family of five daughters and their searches for husbands. The main character is called Elizabeth(Lizzy)Bennet. All boys and most girls will not enjoy this book.

There have been three movies made based on this book. One was made in the 1930s.Another was a telivison series made by BBC in 1995. It goes for about five hours. The best move was made in 2005.

Pride and Prejudice is a very famous book. I think that it is a very interesting story that allows the reader to understand what life was like in the late 18th century.
